Denver School Lunch garden

Denver School Lunch does most of the work on its garden, but there are a few ways for the WWA community to be involved.

  • On the September 17th WWA work day, we moved the leftover railroad ties and bricks from the raised beds over to the DSL garden to make a simple border. Eventually, we’d like to construct a somewhat nicer border with railroad ties or other simple, low-cost fencing.
  • We’ll definitely want better weed control in 2012! In spring, we’ll want to work with DSL with the garden planning and lay down some mulch or landscape fabric before we put the plants in.
  • In spring 2011, the kindergarten kids planted the seeds. We’ll probably have them do that again in 2012, but after we’ve got the weed block in.
  • The DSL garden doesn’t yet have any kind of a sign saying it’s the DSL garden. Katie Fingland has already volunteered to do this.
  • The Russian olive trees just to the west of the garden have been blocking the sun, to the detriment of sun-loving plants like tomatoes. If you have tree-trimming skills and equipment, it would be wonderful if you could trim down the tree.

If you’re interested in volunteering to work on the DSL garden, please send us an email.
